Care & Maintenance

Landscape Container Care & Maintenance Instructions

Kornegay Design,® a Landscape Forms company, takes every precaution to ensure that our products arrive on site in excellent condition. Each container is inspected multiple times before shipment, and leaves our shop having met the highest possible standards for a cast-by-hand concrete product.

The following information has been provided to assist you with the handling, care and maintenance of our planters, and to ensure client and end-user satisfaction.

Upon receipt of your order please read instructions on the label affixed to the crate. Notify us immediately of any concerns. Do not store long term in packaging material, as the packing straps and cardboard can leave marks.

Please note that features such as air bubbles are to be expected in a cast-by-hand concrete product. In a small number of pieces, hairline cracks can also develop over time. These surface features are inherent characteristics that impart a visual interest and individuality to each piece. They do not alter the structural integrity of the planter.

Placement & Handling

  • Due to the considerable size and weight of our planters, placement should only be done with the appropriate equipment such as a pallet jack or forklift. A forklift with extended forks may be required depending on the planter.
  • Extreme care should be taken to ensure that the planter is not set down abruptly or laid on its side during placement, as it can induce cracking and stress fractures.
  • Drilling into the planter for any reason is not recommended (this includes drainage holes and anchor systems). If you have questions about this, please contact our office immediately.

Surface Care

  • Avoid the use of pressure sprayers, power washers and harsh chemicals.
  • Planters will benefit from occasional dusting and can be cleaned using a damp cloth.

Planting & Irrigation

Consult the specifying designer or landscape architect for recommended planting instructions specific to each site or project.

  • Automatic irrigation should be routinely monitored and adjusted to ensure that the soil is able to dry out sufficiently between watering. If consistently saturated, even quality soil will expand and lead to cracking.
  • Use good quality potting soil, formulated specifically for the selected plant species. The use of urban soil (or dirt) can result in compromised drainage and soil expansion that can lead to cracking of the container.
  • Extra care should be taken to ensure that the drainage hole remains unobstructed with loose soil or debris. Poor drainage leads to cracking and leakage.

Failure to follow these recommendations can result in cracked or damaged planters and will void the warranty. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact us directly.
